For the second time in recent weeks, a federal appeals court has struck down state laws barring physician-assisted suicide. The 2nd Circuit Cout of Appeals ruled that two New York laws violated the Constitution because they failed to treat individuals equally. The court said patients on life support systems could ask to be disconnected. But others wanting medication to hasten death were not allowed to be given it.
